Security as a way of life
Brothers Sami and Pasi Nurmela from Ranua run high-security technology services in Rovaniemi. At Seniortek, the focus is on housing solutions for the elderly, while Minesec specializes in demanding industrial environments.
The brothers’ expertise lies in the broader field of safety. Sami brings technical knowledge in security technology and hands-on installation skills, while Pasi applies his experience in process management, cost calculations, quality criteria, and certified standards—learned during his time at forestry industry plants—to their business operations.
“Without my background in factory design and process commissioning, I wouldn’t have been able to lead security system integrations on this scale. Work teaches the worker,” says CEO Pasi Nurmela.
CUSTOMERS DRIVE DEVELOPMENT
According to Nurmela, the customer is the best consultant. Development is guided by their needs. A constantly changing environment requires a sharper focus on proactive safety. Cyberattacks are a risk in any system—whether in assisted living, industry, or public infrastructure.
“In our initial assessment, we outline the processes and functions so that the customer truly understands what they need—and more importantly, what they are ordering. Delivered as a complete service, our systems are cost-effective even at the setup stage, and maintenance combined with regular training ensures continuity, even as staff members change,” says Nurmela.
In these projects, doing only your part isn’t enough—you have to understand the whole. In Minesec’s industrial concepts, planning starts from scratch with standardized practices, emphasizing long-term functionality and resilience. Preventive maintenance is crucial, and spare part availability is ensured by carefully sizing customer-specific inventory. Situations can change instantly, as the COVID years have shown.
MACHINE VISION AND AI INTEGRATED
Industrial clients have driven the use of machine vision and AI in overall safety. These tools are now connected to the CR secure communication system, developed two years ago in collaboration with BookIT for the KEHA Centre. Targeted communication enables predictive safety.
In industrial environments, machine vision helps anticipate failures—where a fault in a single component can shut down an entire plant. CR secure messaging immediately reports the issue, and a service call is triggered instantly. Once systems are integrated, cross-verification becomes possible. After the issue is resolved, the technician confirms the repair in CR, and a full report is generated. The entire process can be managed through one device or mobile app.
VISION: TARGETED MESSAGING FOR LEADERSHIP
Nurmela sees the future of safety in precise communication, real-time location tracking, and clear, actionable instructions. All of these are built into the CR secure messaging system.
“Messages can be sent directly to employees’ phones by SMS or email. In case of a fire, CR can instantly deliver exit route instructions without causing panic, and communication can continue until the situation is fully resolved,” Nurmela emphasizes.
In a broader context, CR is ideally suited for official communications to civilians. Crisis communications can be centrally managed—regionally or nationwide—in both directions: messages can be sent out, and recipients can respond with simple yes/no replies. The system currently supports 8,600 users at the KEHA Centre.
