Demand certified and customer-oriented security

Pasi Nurmela, CEO of Minesec, has seen how risk-averse even large companies have been in buying security services without a comprehensive view and knowledge of what it means to be a certified contractor and to have controls designed with total security in mind. In the security sector, maintaining your own expertise and external supervision are a guarantee of up-to-date security.

– Security is the systematic cross-checking of activities. This is absolute in security systems. Security solutions are one part of the supply chain, followed by the system’s two-tiered controllers, which are the alarm systems in case of anomalies in the facility, i.e. the technology provider, and the surveillance, i.e. the security company’s employees. As separate operators, the monitoring is handled by the two naturally, each with a responsibility to keep their site operational, says Pasi Nurmela, CEO.

However, this is most often the case because buyers are not sufficiently familiar with the potential of security technology and how its monitoring can benefit both the users of the premises and the security of the building. Surveillance systems can be integrated for a myriad of needs, such as access control and camera surveillance. From crime detection and master alarm systems to building alarm systems, fire alarm systems and process improvement systems. There are also machine vision solutions and AI-based solutions. Different environments require different levels of security systems. For security technology, the basic investment is low and security services are purchased separately.

Invest in design

Common processes for security systems are already established in the design. A service bought from a chain supplier may not serve the whole as a process. The lack of external control also increases the risk. Is Santa Claus guarding the cabbage patch? It is always a good idea to find out the price-quality ratio of suppliers.

– The bidder will generally benefit from security industry standards. A security company must have a business licence, a TU quality certificate and be approved by the Financial Supervisory Authority. The ST card specifies all standards on the security side, even down to the unit pricing for the installation of the socket. A company with official licences has extensive know-how and bears responsibility even in the event of damage. Security companies are audited every year by inspections of their customers’ operating environment,” Nurmela explains.

Cost savings are made in planning, where the security of the users of the premises is handled with care. The investment takes into account the adaptability of the space, so that the additional costs are kept to a minimum in the future. There is no need to drill new holes in the walls or run electrical wires in anticipation of the use of the space. Changes can be made by software rather than mechanically.

– The value of a building is also measured by its ability to flex in a user-friendly way, for example by giving access rights to temporary or temporary workers, without the hassle of keys. A building as an operating environment serves its users in a secure way,” Nurmela sums up.

Safety lies in streamlining operational processes and real-time communication. The rapidly changing environment, threats and movement of people increase the need for security in buildings. The value of secured real estate increases to unpredictable levels.

Security buyer’s checklist

1. Require that the service provider is a security company approved by the financial sector, with a valid private security license and a TU certificate. 
2. Official ST-card specifications for electrical contractors, designers, and suppliers.
3. Request a plan for a customer-oriented solution delivery, scalable and adaptable to future changes.
