In the municipality of Liminka, gym doors open via mobile access.
In 2021, the municipality of Liminka adopted the e-Spaces facility management system by Minesec, a company based in Rovaniemi. Within two years, the number of satisfied residents using sports facilities has grown to 1,400.

The municipality of Liminka adopted Minesec’s E-Tilat facility management system, developed in Rovaniemi, in 2021. In just two years, usage of sports facilities by satisfied residents has grown to 1,400 users.
The system integrates access control, calendar bookings, and payment for gym and sports sessions. With a smartphone, residents can purchase gym or sports facility access from home. Entry is granted through mobile authentication at a time that suits the user.
Asset management through data-driven leadership
Expenses for sports services have remained steady, while increased usage has generated more income. In Liminka, users range in age from 14 to over 80, with the largest group being working-age residents, says Janne Laamanen, Sports Services Manager for the municipality.
The E-Tilat system provides an easy tool for monitoring and reporting on facility use.
“Data-driven decision-making has enabled us to track booking rates more accurately. Next, we’re planning to monitor overall usage rates and integrate staff Outlook calendars into the same system. Combining existing systems saves resources,” Laamanen notes.
Easy to use
The mobile app has been praised for its ease of use and reliability. No major issues have occurred, and minor ones have typically been due to the user’s phone rather than the system.
“We personally assist every resident in using their smartphone and installing the free app. A chip-enabled key fob is also available as an alternative access method. In Liminka, access won’t be the reason you miss a workout,” Laamanen assures.
Scalable system
In addition to gyms, the system now covers all indoor sports facilities in Liminka, as well as the dressing rooms at the winter swimming area. Further expansions are planned. The E-Tilat facility management system scales from small units to large entities such as industrial facilities. The same system can support emergency response operations and location-based billing. In this way, facility management is positioned as a strategic part of a building’s lifecycle, monitoring and control.
